In this unique classroom experience where the teacher is the horse, it is guaranteed to feel more like play than work!
When young people become confronted by the magnificence of a thousand pound, non-verbal, but highly communicative and non-judgemental horse, their current thoughts tend to fade and they find themselves present in the moment. This is the only place where horses live and why their immediate and honest feedback can be a wake up call and learning curve all in one.
Our Group - Youth Power Programs have a similar foundation in what is offered as in our Individual - Youth Power Sessions with the exception of combining this opportunity as a group. Through the registration process, personalization for each participant's goals and comfort level remains a priority.
Imagine a next-to-nature surrounding along with your peers where lessons and life skills are taken in without you even realizing that is happening! By pre-determined, interactive exercises and time spent with the horses, youth will begin to relate to situations in their own lives. During our valuable debrief and group discussions, opportunities arise for positive growth and self-awareness, and to take the benefits back into the real world in their own individual ways.
Through guidance and mild metaphors, youth will witness the importance of a true and necessary partnership. Participants will come to realize the horse's need for a trustworthy and confident leader, as well as the importance of their own needs being met simutaneously, for a harmonious relationship.
Youth will have the opportunity to cross notes and take part in group discussions. While relating to the differences in each horse's 'horsenality', youth will learn the importance of developing acceptance of their individuality. Through mutual respect, patience, and understanding, participants will be guided through hands-on exercises where the goal is to bring the best out in the horse rather than changing who they are.
As a group, peers will have the opportunity to touch on a myriad of life lessons from the horses. Quite typically, varying topics will surface naturally and non-traditionally. Some 'Ah Ha' subject matter that may likely surface will be based on: the importance of trust, clear communication, teamwork, support, overcoming fear, self-efficacy, problem solving, building confidence and self esteem, respect for self and others, balancing assertiveness, self-regulation and emotional intelligence, to name a few.
